The Truth About Rottweilers!

Welcome everyone; I am Liz Gutierrez. My husband, Angel Gutierrez, has owned a Rottweiler kennel for the past 23 years named Der Korperkraft Von Rottweilers, better known as DKV Rottweilers. For those of you who are wondering, that translates to “The Physical Strength of Rottweilers” in English. We have spent most of our lives around the Rottweiler breed and we have three sons who have spent their entire lives around the Rottweiler breed.

When you are around a specific breed for most of your life, you learn to understand that breed on a much more personal level. You learn to understand why they do what they do. Are all Rottweilers the same? No, no, no! Different bloodlines, sex of the Rottweiler, and how they are raised, all play a tremendous role in what they become. Sure, you can read about Rottweilers online all day long, but I can guarantee you will still have questions unanswered when you are finished.

One of the most common questions I am asked is what is the difference between a German Rottweiler and an American Rottweiler? You can easily find about 50+ answers to this “simple” question on the internet, making it apparently the “hardest” question to answer about the Rottweiler breed. It drives me nuts! Show quality, pet quality, natural tails, docked tails, large puppies, runts, long snouts, short snouts, black rottweilers, albino rottweilers, red rottweilers, giant rottweilers, mini rottweilers… What???

My Rottweiler Blog is where I will be posting random, but useful, knowledge for anyone interested learning about this powerful breed. I will share stories of experience from our very first Rottweiler puppy to losing our oldest family companions, and every fun loving and hair pulling obstacles we faced in-between. Want to learn the TRUTH about the breed; then come read along with me in my Rottweiler Blog!

  1. I am so impressed with y’all and I am hoping to be on the waiting list for the fifth or sixth litter. As a previous Rottweiler owner I know how loving this breed is and in doing my research I am certain that I have found the right breeder for my family. I am prayerful that my phone interview goes well and I will soon welcome a new member to my little family farm. Thank you Liz and Angel for being responsible breeders and for providing so many families with get companions.

    1. Thank you for such a kind comment. It is truly a blessing to be able to provide Rottweiler puppies to such wonderful homes and make lifelong friends who share a common interest. Kudos to you for being a responsible breeder and taking the time to research breeders. It great to see you even choose to continue learning about the Rottweiler breed, even though you clearly have lots of experience. That shows your commitment to the breed, and for that, we thank you! 2. It’s very obvious that you guys produce a quality dog. I’ve owned Rotties for years. It’s my favorite dog. I think your process to purchase your pups are too time consuming and unnecessary. Most people don’t have the patience to fill out a questionnaire, send a $1000 of their hard earn money, and wait to be approved. Totally unnecessary. I prefer to purchase a pup and move on. And the most annoying is there’s no price, which seems suspicious. Folks are looking for dogs that can protect not go through a long process to purchase one. Thank you.

    1. Good afternoon, Mr. Miller. First, thank you for taking the time to write a comment. Also, thank you for your kind words about our Rottweilers. Angel does have a passion for his Rottweilers and we appreciate you noticing. I am sorry that you felt our process was too long. Everyone does have the right to their opinion. I did want to mention that you had one step incorrect. We never ask for a deposit before you are approved; the deposit (which is deducted from the puppy’s balance) is only required once you have been approved and have decided to commit to DKV Rottweilers.

I would like to take the time to explain our procedure and reasoning…

First, we require everyone to complete a buyer questionnaire. This tell us a little about you, your home environment, existing pets, etc. This is very important to us, because it helps us determine if one of DKV pups will be a good fit for you, and if so, what type of personality will strive best in your home. I understand some people want to just pull up to a breeders home, spend 10 minutes with a litter, and pick out a pup. That is fine, but it does not work for us. The main reason that does not work is because we have about a year’s waiting list at all time. Besides that, we feel that is extremely irresponsible for a breeder to allow, since 10 minutes will not give you the insight into that puppy’s personality. DKV performs temperament tests on all puppies and we recommend the puppies that we feel would strive in your home environment, after considering your experience, existing pets, children, etc. This is what we are known for and this is why we don’t have puppies returned.

Second, if taking 15 minutes to complete a buyer questionnaire is too much effort, then it served it purpose. If having a phone interview is not worth your time, again, then it served its purpose. We do not sell to anyone who is simply willing to pay our price. You can go on social media right now, and click on any Rottweiler board, and I guarantee you will find a post that says… Does anyone have any Rottweiler puppy for sale? In the comments, you will find hundreds of breeders providing photos and prices. They are willing to sell to anyone for money. This is definitely not DKV Rottweilers way of doing business. Everyone goes through the same process. Only after we read over your questionnaire, and after we had a phone interview, will we have the information needed to determine if one of our Rottweiler puppies will be a good match for you. If someone is not willing to put in that minimal amount of effort to finding a responsible breeding, why would they be willing to put in the effort to train their Rottweiler or to seek out a medical specialist after an injury, etc… Again, everyone has a right to their own opinion. But if someone does not want to follow through with our steps, as I stated above, then it served its purpose in helping us determine our decision – without being filled out.

Last, the reason we do not post prices is because all our Rottweiler puppies are not one price across the board. Puppy prices are determined by the parents, their accomplishments, bloodlines, puppy pick, and the puppy’s overall quality. How can I give a price to an upcoming litter when I don’t even know if that puppy will be born with a fault? Breeders who have one price, probably don’t even know what a fault is because they never competed with their dogs. Price ranges are always provided in our questionnaire responses and in our phone interview. People who complete those steps will know our prices. If you are searching by price alone, and are not interested in the parents, health clearances, health guarantees, etc., then I can guarantee we are not the kennel for you.

In the end, I do not believe a questionnaire and phone interview is a “long” process. I also know my customers appreciate the extra steps we take to helping them find the perfect Rottweiler for their family. Now, you might be the absolute perfect DKV customer, but simply want a quicker method. I understand that. But you have to understand the we get hundreds of questionnaire’s each week, and there are some people with bad intentions. So, if it helps us wean those out, then it’s worth it. We have been breeding for over 26 years and this process is simply what works best for us. This does not mean this is the best method, but it is what works best for DKV. LG

ps. I hope you ended up finding your perfect Rottweiler for you and your family.
